Stella Clark’s exhibition ‘In the Moment’ will be on display in the Carlton Gallery, at The Arts Junction 36 Main Rd, Katikati until Sunday 11th September at 2pm.
Stella is a mixed media artist who paints large expressive paintings onto canvas or ply through an expressive markmaking process via brushes, knives plastic, squegees even sanding away to achieve the desired textures.
With the nature/seascape inspired and also the abstract works she uses many types of media: inks ,acrylic, charcoal, oilsticks painting what she sees and experiences from sketches and photographs .
She is fascinated by what happens between experience and interpreting, creating unique works that are often quite direct and gestural. She is known for strong colour in her work and applying paint to canvas in a sculptural like way to build up the surface on the painting.
Stella lives and works in the Bay of Plenty, on Sundays you will find her at Imprint Gallery(Historic Village, Tauranga ) which she co owns with Jackie Knotts.
Other days she paints from her studio located at Satellite Studios (Historic Village) Opp. The Incubator and is available for discussion on commissions, classes/workshops and general chats about art!
She runs children Term art classes in Omokoroa and one on one private classes and group workshops.
She studied Illustration design at Massey university B Des llus (hons). She sells her paintings and prints via Galleries Imprint Gallery , Artist Window Gallery, Maddox Gallery, Wallace Gallery, Waihi Beach Gallery and online.
Most recently she was the Tauranga Art Gallery Miles Award Finalist 2018 & 2020.
