Whats on at the Carlton Gallery

What’s On
Week 19 August – 1 September
Husband and wife Coromandel artists, Mike and Marian Cogswell are joined by Vaughan Udall with an exhibition at the Carlton Gallery from 19 August until 1 September
For many years Marian has been interested in fabric with its vibrant colours, many textures and designs. Lately she has reinterpreted this interest to clay. For this exhibition her interest is colour.
Mike has been a ceramic artist since the late 80’s. He specialises in ceramic lustres. Basically, painting thin layers of heavy metals, gold, platinum etc onto his ceramic work. This exhibition is a continuous of that journey. At the moment Mike is particularly interested in the depth of pattern he can achieve by layering these heavy metals.
Vaughan has a Kauri tree at the entrance to his studio nestled in the native bush, it is here he gets his inspiration working in acrylic, oils, pastel and printmaking. The love of colour and movement is what he aims to convey in his work. Working in a loose contemporary style. Apart from creating his own art, Vaughan also runs workshops and can arrange them for small groups. His studio on the road into Coromandel Town is open most days, or by appointment.
