Calling all ornithologists! (birdwatchers), Our next exhibition is breathtaking, a must-see for photographers and bird enthusiasts.
Wayne Smith is a very keen and committed photographer and is fortunate to be based in New Zealand.
Wayne has had a long interest in photography, starting in his late teenage years when he stopped hunting and began photographing deer and chamois in the South Island of New Zealand. In addition, working in the Southern Alps provided many opportunities for both wildlife and landscape photography – mostly using slide film.
In recent years Wayne has started on the digital photography pathway, slowly acquiring good quality Canon equipment and learning the complexities of operating it effectively.
Photographing in the natural environment is challenging and rewarding as he learns to ‘see’ good scenic images; and to observe fungi and wildlife to obtain images that represent them in their habitats. Researching the locations and habits of these species is critical; along with lots of patience, time commitment and luck.
